Builds
Available builds
The game is first-person 3D horror climbing made with Godot. It is not available for Android or iOS.
Platforms: Windows (.zip) · Linux (.tar.xz only — no .deb / AppImage on the store page)
Safety: Unsigned / indie executables sometimes trigger SmartScreen or antivirus heuristics. If in doubt, verify the URL is leafygames.itch.io/idols-of-ash.
Windows graphics: v1.13 adds an ANGLE rendering option that can fix blank/black screens or driver quirks — try it in game options if the screen stays black after the brightness prompt.
Linux: Extract the archive and run the Godot export binary from the folder. You may need to mark it executable (chmod +x).

Download the zip from itch.io, extract it, and run the game executable (Godot icon). If Windows SmartScreen appears, use “More info” → “Run anyway” only if you trust the official download.
Linux
IdolsOfAsh_v1_13_LINUX.tar.xz (~94 MB)
Extract the .tar.xz (e.g. tar -xf … or your file manager), then run the included executable from that folder. Use the Linux archive — the Windows zip is not interchangeable.

Windows — quick steps
Show steps
- On itch.io, click Download and choose the Windows zip (see filename above for the current version).
- Extract the entire folder — keep files together so the game can find its data.
- Double-click the game executable. If a brightness setup screen appears but the display stays black, update to the latest build and try ANGLE mode (see FAQ / changelog).
Itch desktop app If the app says there are no compatible files, open the same game page in a normal browser and download the zip directly.
Install
Linux — quick steps
Show steps
- Download the Linux .tar.xz from itch.io (not the Windows zip).
- Extract: `tar -xf IdolsOfAsh_*_LINUX.tar.xz` (or use a GUI archive tool).
- cd into the extracted directory and run the game binary. If it will not start, try `chmod +x` on the executable.
Support
Common issues
- “Not compatible” or game won’t start? You most likely grabbed the wrong archive (Windows vs Linux). Re-download the matching file from the official itch.io page.
- Windows Defender / SmartScreen warning? Common for small-studio builds. Only proceed if the file is from the official itch.io page.
- Black screen / no picture after launch? Update to the latest version and try ANGLE rendering on Windows (see changelog). More in the FAQ.
