Available builds
First-person 3D horror climbing (Godot). Windows, Linux (.tar.gz on current itch), and Mac (.zip) on itch.io after purchase; also on Steam. No official mobile build — do not trust random APKs.

Safety: Unsigned / indie executables sometimes trigger SmartScreen, Gatekeeper, or antivirus heuristics. If in doubt, verify the URL is leafygames.itch.io/idols-of-ash.
Windows graphics: Recent Windows builds include an ANGLE rendering option for black-screen / driver issues after the brightness prompt. You can also turn off volumetric lighting for performance or tweak the reduce-pixelization option for captures — see the Guide / changelog.
Linux: Extract the .tar.gz (or older .tar.xz if that is what itch lists), then run the Godot export binary from the folder. You may need chmod +x. Use the Linux archive — Windows and Mac zips are not interchangeable.
Mac: Extract the Mac zip and open the app. If macOS warns about an unidentified developer, use right-click → Open on the app (only if you trust the official itch.io download).
Windows

Purchase on itch.io if needed, download the Windows zip, extract it, and run the game executable (Godot icon). If Windows SmartScreen appears, use “More info” → “Run anyway” only if you trust the official download.
Linux
IdolsOfAsh_v1_24_LINUX.tar.gz (~156 MB)
Extract the .tar.gz (e.g. tar -xzf … or your file manager), then run the included executable from that folder. Use the Linux archive — the Windows and Mac zips are not interchangeable.
Mac
IdolsOfAsh_v1_24_MAC.zip (~112 MB)
Purchase on itch.io if needed, download the Mac zip, extract it, and open the game app. If Gatekeeper blocks it, try right-click → Open, or adjust Security settings — only from the official itch.io file.
Install
Windows — quick steps
Show steps
- On itch.io, complete purchase if required, then download the Windows zip (filename above matches the current public build).
- Extract the entire folder — keep files together so the game can find its data.
- Double-click the game executable. If a brightness setup screen appears but the display stays black, update to the latest build and try ANGLE mode (see FAQ / changelog).
Itch desktop app If the app says there are no compatible files, open the same game page in a normal browser and download the zip directly.
Install
Linux — quick steps

- Download the Linux archive from itch.io (`.tar.gz` on current builds; older patches may list `.tar.xz`).
- Extract: `tar -xzf IdolsOfAsh_*_LINUX.tar.gz` (or `tar -xf` for .tar.xz, or use a GUI archive tool).
- cd into the extracted directory and run the game binary. If it will not start, try `chmod +x` on the executable.
Install
Mac — quick steps
Show steps
- On itch.io, complete purchase if required, then download the Mac zip listed on the game page.
- Unzip and move the `.app` (or folder) somewhere convenient, e.g. Applications.
- If macOS says the app cannot be opened, right-click the app → Open and confirm — only when the file is from the official itch.io download.

Common issues
- “Not compatible” or game won’t start? You most likely grabbed the wrong archive (Windows vs Linux vs Mac). Re-download the matching file from the official itch.io page.
- Windows Defender / SmartScreen warning? Common for small-studio builds. Only proceed if the file is from the official itch.io page.
- Black screen / no picture after launch? Update to the latest version and try ANGLE rendering on Windows (see changelog). More in the FAQ.

Leafy Games distributes Idols of Ash on itch.io and Steam. This site does not host game files. Use those official pages; avoid re-uploads on random file hosts.
