What is Idols of Ash?

Idols of Ash is an atmospheric 3D horror adventure: first-person vertical descent with grapple swings, fall risk, and constant pursuit pressure. Leafy Games (Godot); single-player; horror / dark fantasy on itch.io and Steam.

How to approach the game

01

Install the right build

Use the Windows zip on PC, the Linux .tar.gz (or .tar.xz if that is what itch lists) on Linux, and the Mac zip on macOS — they are not interchangeable. Extract and run the Godot-exported app from the folder.

Learn the grapple

Momentum and rope swings are core. Expect trial-and-error on drops; the difficulty ramps, with optional challenge modes discussed on itch.io.

Mind the horror & pacing

You are being chased. Steep drops and corner pressure are part of the design — take breaks if you need to.

Keep up with patches

Recent updates added inverted mode experiments, graphics toggles (ANGLE, volumetric lighting, pixelization), Steam release, and ongoing controller fixes — see Updates for devlog links.

Support

Platforms

  • Windows: 64-bit build in the itch zip. If the screen stays black, update to the latest patch and try ANGLE rendering.
  • Linux: use the Linux archive from itch (current public builds use .tar.gz). Extract, chmod +x if needed, and run the binary from that directory.
  • Mac: use the Mac zip from itch.io after purchase; if Gatekeeper blocks the app, try right-click → Open. Steam: install via the Steam client. Mobile: no official Android/iOS build.
