FAQ & troubleshooting

Practical answers based on public itch.io listings, devlogs, and common player reports — not official support.

Which download is for Windows vs Linux?

On itch.io you should see two archives: a .zip marked for Windows (e.g. IdolsOfAsh_v1_13.zip) and a .tar.xz build for Linux. They are not interchangeable — downloading the wrong one is the most common “won’t run” issue.

Windows SmartScreen or Defender flagged the exe. Is it a virus?

Indie executables are often unsigned, so Windows may show a reputation warning. That is different from a concrete malware detection. Only download from the official page leafygames.itch.io/idols-of-ash. If you are unsure, scan the file with an up-to-date scanner or wait for a storefront release you trust more.

The game asks to set brightness, then stays black.

Update to the latest build. Version 1.13 on Windows adds an ANGLE rendering option to work around graphics driver issues that could show only a black framebuffer. Check the itch.io devlog for that release, then try toggling ANGLE in the game’s settings. If problems persist, update GPU drivers.

Mouse sensitivity feels wrong.

Patch 1.12 added adjustable mouse and gamepad sensitivity plus invert-Y. Open the options menu after updating from itch.io. Some players also report input quirks when FPS is low — close background apps if needed.

Is there an Android, Mac, or iOS build?

The public itch.io listing only advertises Windows and Linux downloads. If a new platform appears, it will be announced on itch.io or the developer’s sites — do not trust random APK mirrors.

What are the content warnings?

The itch.io page lists: disturbing imagery, mild strobing, themes of illness and suicide. If any of those are unsafe for you, skip the game or ask a clinician / trusted resource first.

Where do I report bugs?

This fan site cannot fix the game. Post on the itch.io comments or follow instructions in the devlog so Leafy Games sees feedback.
